DANNY ELFMAN & TIM BURTON 25th ANNIVERSARY MUSIC BOX

2. Beetlejuice

Notes and Notions:

I have very little to offer in terms of back-story or points of interest here. Around the studio we call this the “Karaoke Disc.”  Lots of instrumental versions of songs.  I think it’s interesting if you like to hear what’s going on behind the vocals and its fun if you like to sing along.

Towards the end you’ll hear a “Corpse Bride worktape” This is an early piano improvisation that I did for Victor’s piano theme.  I wrote it imagining Victor sitting at the piano alone playing to himself.  This was probably when I was also searching for his theme. It goes though a few different variations as it’s developing, but his theme is definitely in there.  It took a while, but eventually it did find it’s way through.

To close this disc we have the “Music Box Suites”.  In creating this 25th Anniversary Music Box, I always thought there should be something to accompany the spinning Zoetrope, so I created four different Suites of my music for Tim, in the style of vintage mechanical music boxes.  It was hard to pick which one to use for the Music Box chip, so I ended up making a hybrid instead.  These are the four suites I originally created for this project.
